Remove Background from Image with AI

Drop a photo and Localvert's AI finds the subject — a person, a product, a pet, a car — and removes everything behind it. Download the result as a transparent PNG for designs, slides and online shops, or pick a solid background color and save a JPG ready for a profile picture or a marketplace listing.

Hair, fur and soft edges are handled by the model rather than a simple outline, so the cut-out looks natural instead of pasted on.

Any subject uses BiRefNet, a high-accuracy segmentation model (about 100 MB, downloaded once). It works on products, animals, objects and people. People uses MODNet, a small portrait model (about 7 MB) that is much faster and ideal for headshots, selfies and ID photos.

On a computer with a modern graphics card, Chrome and Edge run the model on the GPU and finish in a second or two. On other devices it runs on the processor and takes longer, but the result is the same.

Most background removers upload your photo to their servers — including photos of you, your children or your home. Here the model runs inside your browser, so the photo never leaves your device. Only the model file is downloaded, once, from a public model hub.

Use photos where the subject is in focus and clearly separated from the background. Very busy backgrounds, transparent objects such as glasses of water, and subjects that touch the edge of the frame are the hardest cases. If the edges aren't perfect, try the other model.
